Falcons Host ‘Cats

A new day and a new opponent for the Falcons on Friday as the club welcomes the Victoria Harbourcats to Elks Stadium for a three-game weekend series.

The Falcons (16-11) are coming off a mid-week series win over the Kamloops NorthPaws, scoring 38 runs in the process and hitting the ball hard to all parts of the field.  On Thursday night in the series finale the club put up 19 runs and scored in seven of their eight at bats.  Needless to say, the offence has been on fire as of late and helped the club win five series in a row.  As a team they are hitting .282 with 21 homeruns, both second highest totals in the West Coast League.  Druw Frost leads the team in hitting with a .349 batting average and 22 total hits.

Meanwhile the pitching staff also continues to shine with the second-best team ERA of 4.18.  For the most part the starters have been solid however some of the relievers have struggled coming out of the bullpen, something the coaching staff has addressed moving forward.

The pitchers will be tested this weekend with the Harbourcats (14-13) owning the league’s best batting average of .286.  They can hit for average and power with a solid lineup from one through nine.  They will be much better than what they showed at the beginning of the season when the Falcons swept them in Victoria outscoring them 18-5.   They have won two straight coming off a series win over the Nanaimo NightOwls.

Friday night’s game marks the official start of the second half of the season as both teams will play their 28th of the campaign and pushing for a playoff spot.   The Falcons are two games up on the Harbourcats in the standings and four games out of top spot in the North Division.

Game one of the series is set for 6:35pm on Friday night at Elks Stadium.  Fans can purchase tickets in advance on the Falcons ticket page or grab them at the gate an hour before opening pitch at 5:30pm.
