Buck’s Slam Not Enough

For the second time this season the Falcons are hit with a loss in Kamloops, falling 11-8 to the NorthPaws in a Canada Day matinee.

The second inning was the team’s downfall giving up five runs, digging a hole they couldn’t fly out of.  Starting pitcher Jordan Green had a tough outing giving up all five runs in the inning, lasting 1.2 innings and suffered the loss.

In the top of the fourth, the visiting Falcons got one of those runs back.  After Xander Sielken and Rees Kozar singled and advanced a base on a NorthPaws error, Josh Cunnigan grounded out in a fielder’s choice, allowing Sielken to score.

The Falcons scored another run in the fifth inning when Sielken reached on a bases loaded fielder’s choice to bring home Talon Tucker who singled earlier in the inning.

Any thoughts of a Falcons come back were thwarted in the bottom of the fifth when the NorthPaws tallied six runs on four hits off relievers Lucas Smith and Keller Bloodworth.

Despite being down the Falcons offence continued to chip away.  In the top of the sixth Ashton Graff-Rowe doubled home Cunnigan who singled two batters earlier.  Then in the seventh inning they added five more runs, highlighted by a grand slam off the bat of Finley Buckner (pictured) but it’s as close as the Falcons would come.

With the series tied the Falcons (15-11) and NorthPaws (11-15) will meet again on Thursday night at Elks Stadium at 6:35pm in the series finale.  Fans can purchase tickets in advance on the Falcons ticket page or at the gate an hour before opening pitch.
