Tough One
The Falcons were four outs away from a series win in Wenatchee, however the Applesox came storming back in their last two at bats to steal a 5-4 victory on Sunday in the series finale.
In the bottom of the first inning the Sox tallied a run off Falcons’ starter Chase Gordon and held that lead until the fifth inning when the Falcons finally tied it. With runners at the corners Finley Buckner lifted a sacrifice fly into centerfield to score Justin Tucker who singled to lead off the frame.
The Sox took the lead right back in the bottom half of the inning with a single run off Gordon. He finished after five innings and struck out six in a no decision.
In the top of the seventh the Falcons opened the inning by loading the bases with nobody out. Boogie McNeal came up with a timely double to drive in Tucker and Rees Kozar to give the visitors a lead. They would add to the lead in the top of the eighth when Kozar blasted his fourth homerun of the season giving his club a 4-2 advantage.
Unfortunately for the Falcons the bullpen couldn’t hold the lead, allowing two runs in the bottom of the eighth before walking off in the ninth to hand the Falcons the defeat.
The Facons (22-14) hit the All-Star break four games back of the Sox for first place in the North Division. Seth Sumner and Jacob Loving will represent the Falcons at the All-Star game in Victoria this week while the other players on the roster enjoy some down time before opening a weekend series on Friday night at Elks Stadium against the visiting Nanaimo NightOwls. Fans can purchase tickets in advance on the Falcons ticket page, or they can be purchased at the gate an hour before the game.
