Pitching Duel
The top two pitching staffs were on full display on Friday night as the Falcons opened a weekend series in Wenatchee, falling 2-1 at the hands of the Applesox.
Falcons All-Star Seth Sumner was outstanding over the course of six innings giving up both Applesox runs but held their offence to five hits and struck out five. Unfortunately, he didn’t get much help offensively and suffered the loss.
The reason for the quiet bats was Sox starter Mitch Haythorn who threw seven innings of shutout baseball and struck out nine in the win.
The lone Falcons run came in the top of the ninth inning. With one-out Jacob Embleton tripled before scoring on a Josh Cunnigan ground out. The bats recorded seven hits in total, All-Star Jacob Loving had three of them and Cunnigan collected a pair.
Saturday night the teams will meet again in Wenatchee with now four games between them for first place in the North Division. The first pitch on Saturday night will fly at 6:35pm in the state of Washington.
