Falcons Win Series

Thursday night the Falcons earned another series victory with a 3-2 win over the visiting Kamloops NorthPaws at Elks Stadium.

Starting pitcher Mark Rogers was brilliant, throwing seven innings, striking out 11 batters en route to his third win of the campaign.  He did an excellent job keeping the NorthPaws off balance while mixing his pitches.  He allowed two runs, only one of them earned and kept the visitors to just four hits while walking one.  Aiden Ennis pitched a perfect eighth inning out of the bullpen fanning two, before Eddie Dolansky followed suit with a three-up, three-down ninth earning his fourth save.

Offensively the Falcons opened the scoring in the bottom half of the second.  After loading the bases with one-out, Ty Peters reached on a fielder’s choice putting pressure on the defence which allowed both Josh Cunnigan and Xander Sielken to come across to score on a wild play.

In the bottom of the fifth the home side would score the eventual game winning run.  Rees Kozar singled in front of a walk to Sielken.  With two-out Jacob Embleton came up with a timely double to drive in Kozar with the team’s third run.  Despite having two runners in scoring position, the NorthPaws pitchers got out of the inning, limiting the damage.

Rogers was cruising until the sixth when the visitors scored a pair of runs to cut the lead to just one, but the bullpen held and the Falcons captured their 21st win of the year.   Incredibly the Falcons offence managed only three hits in the contest but found a way to score three runs.

Friday night the Falcons hit the road and visit Wenatchee for a three-game weekend series against the Applesox, trailing them by three games for first place in the North Division.  Following this series the clubs will head into the All-Star break.
