Sweep!
The Falcons completed the impressive weekend sweep in Victoria on Sunday afternoon with a 6-3 win over the Harbourcats and finished the six-game island road swing 3-3.
In the top of the second inning the Falcons got on the board first. After Ashton Graff-Rowe doubled, he moved over to third on a Druw Frost single. On the next pitch, Owen Rodgers hit a sac-fly to score Graff-Rowe.
The score stayed that way until the sixth inning as both starting pitchers settled into a groove. Falcons’ starter Seth Sumner was outstanding through 5.1 innings, holding the Harbourcats to just one hit and struck out four as he earned the victory.
In that sixth inning Jacob Embleton blasted his second homerun in as many days, this was a solo shot giving the visitors a two-run advantage.
Two innings later the Falcons blew open the game with four runs taking advantage of the Harbourcats inability to find the strike zone for the second straight night. After walking the bases loaded to open the top of the eighth, Frost walked to force home Matthew Pena who walked to lead off the inning. The next batter was Rodgers, who was hit by a pitch to force home Embleton. With the bases still loaded, the next batter Finley Buckner was also hit by a pitch to score Talon Tucker. Boogie McNeal then hit a sac-fly to score Frost. The Falcons four runs in the inning were earned without a hit.
In the bottom of the inning the Harbourcats responded with three runs to cut the lead in half off reliever Keller Bloodworth, but it’s as close as they would come, as the Falcons (4-5) recorded their fourth win of the year.
The club returns to Elks Stadium on Tuesday night as they welcome the Walla Walla Sweets (6-3) to town for a three-game series. Tickets can be purchased in advance or an hour before game time on game nights.
