Falcons Claw Harbourcats

In his first start for the Falcons, Mark Rogers delivered an outstanding performance, pitching six shutout innings and striking out seven in an 8-1 win on Saturday night in Victoria.

After Rogers exited, Cade Webber and Luke Glenn stayed sharp out of the bullpen, shutting down the HarbourCats and helping the Falcons record 12 strikeouts in the game.

Offensively, the Falcons erupted for three runs in the top of the fourth on the strength of a Jacob Embleton three-run homer scoring Matthew Pena and Talon Tucker after they reached on base hits.  It would turn out to be the only runs the Falcons pitching staff would need.

However, in the sixth, the Falcons put an explanation mark on the game with five more runs in the inning, all with two-out. Riley Quealey walked after the first two batters were retired.  He would eventually score an unearned run on a Harbourcats error.  Boogie McNeal then knocked in Finley Buckner who also walked earlier in the inning.  With the bases loaded the Harbourcats pitchers continued to struggle, hitting Tucker, then walking Pena and hitting Ashton Graff-Rowe (pictured), each forcing in a run.  In the inning, the offence scored five times, on just one hit.

Sunday afternoon the Falcons (3-5) and ‘Cats (3-5) meet for the final time in Victoria, with the visitors looking to sweep the series at 1:05pm.  The Falcons return home Tuesday night to host the Walla Walla Sweets.
