Kelowna v. Kamloops
Tuesday night the Falcons return home after a very successful trip to Bend, Oregon, sweeping the Elks and outscoring them 33-11.
The club is currently on a five-game winning streak with the team playing their best baseball of the young season. This streak has allowed the Falcons (10-8) to climb 4.5 games back of first place in the North Division, chasing the Bellingham Bells, Wenatchee Applesox and Nanaimo NightOwls in the standings.
On the offensive side during this streak, they have outscored the opposition 48-12 and have raised their overall team batting average to .265 with 46 extra base hits including 15 homeruns, second most in the West Coast League. Matthew Pena, who clubbed his sixth homer on Friday night leads the league in that category and has collected a team high 22 RBIs. CJ Griggs also had an outstanding roady to Bend and leads the team with a .327 average.
Not be outdone, the pitching staff has locked in and is frustrating the opposition allowing just 12 runs over the course of the last five games. The team ERA of 3.51 is a league best and have a combined 139 strikeouts. They have been pitching to contact allowing their defence to work behind them with a .975 fielding percentage and a league low 17 committed errors.
Lefty Mark Rogers has team best 2.45 ERA after picking up the win on Sunday throwing six innings allowing a run on four hits and fanning two.
Beginning on Tuesday the Falcons will play a home-and-home series with the Kamloops NorthPaws, hosting games at Elks Stadium on Tuesday and Thursday while traveling to Kamloops on Wednesday.
The NorthPaws (7-11) have struggled as of late, losing four in a row and find themselves three games back of the Falcons in the standings. They were swept this past weekend at Bellingham getting outscored 22-10. Coming into the series with the Falcons they have a better team batting average at .268 and 15 more extra base hits. Their biggest struggle through the first 18 games is on the mound with the league’s worst team ERA of 6.39 and 115 strikeouts. The Falcons will look to continue to keep the NorthPaws pitching woes intact and take advantage with their own red-hot offence.
Tickets for the two home games against the NorthPaws are available now on the Falcons ticket page. Fans can also purchase tickets at the gate on game days an hour before the first pitch, in this case the gates will open at 5:30pm for both games against the ‘Paws.
