How Sweep It Is

The Falcons reach the 10-win plateau with a convincing 10-2 victory in Bend on Sunday afternoon to earn a series sweep and raise their win streak to five.

It was the visitors that got on the board first, like they did in the first two games of the series. In the top of the second inning, the offence went to work putting up three runs. After Jacob Embelton singled, he stole second getting himself into scoring position. Xander Sielken recorded a single of his own moving Embelton over to third base to give the Falcons runners at the corners. The next batter, Justin Tucker, plated Embelton with an RBI sacrifice fly. On the next pitch, Sielken stole second before Cade Burnham walked which included a wild pitch to advance Sielken to third. Jacob Loving then tripled to centerfield chasing home both Sielken and Burnham for a three-run lead.

The Elks got one back in the bottom of the inning off starter Mark Rogers who was brilliant in the ball game. He threw six innings, allowed a run on four hits and struck out two, earning the victory.

In the top of the fourth inning the offence clicked again, scoring four more runs. Tucker and Burnham led off the inning with back-to-back singles before Loving’s grounder to third was mishandled, allowing Tucker to score an unearned run on the error. Nolan Eberwein walked on four pitches to load up the bases with no-one out. Rees Kozar got in on the RBI parade with a sacrifice fly to force home Burnham. Mr. RBI, Matthew Pena was next up and knocked in Loving with an RBI single to centerfield and moved Eberwein to third base where he would later score courtesy of a wild pitch.

After that, Rogers and the Falcons bullpen cruised through the next five innings allowing just one more run completely frustrating Elks’ hitters.

In the top of the ninth, the Falcons continued to pour it on. Pena led off the inning with a hit before Kaden Prosofsky came into pinch run. He moved to third on an Embelton single once again putting runners at the corners. Sielken made the Elks pay on the next pitch with a two-run double down the rightfield line. The very next batter was Tucker who singled to bring home Sielken to put a cap on the scoring.

Offensively the bats recorded 12 hits in the lopsided win, moving the club to withing 4.5 games of first place in the North Division.

The Falcons (10-8) will have Monday off to travel back to Kelowna and to prepare for a three-game, home-and-home series with the Kamloops NorthPaws (7-11) beginning on Tuesday night at Elks Stadium. Tickets for the home games on Tuesday and Thursday are available in advance on the Falcons ticket page.
