Bird Battle
With the All-Star break behind us the Falcons (22-14) have 18 games remaining in the 2026 regular season and will need to push the rest of the way in hopes of earning a playoff spot.
The club will open a three-game weekend series at Elks Stadium on Friday when they host the visiting Nanaimo NightOwls (22-17), with 1.5 games separating them in the standings. To date, the NightOwls are the only team the Falcons have not beaten, getting swept in Nanaimo at the beginning of the season.
Heading into the All-Star break the Falcons dropped a series in Wenatchee, snapping their streak of seven series wins in a row. Playing at Elks Stadium this season has had it’s advantages with the club winning 13 of 18 games, looking to continue that hot streak this weekend. Speaking of hot, the weather in Kelowna during the weekend is going to be very warm, something the coaching staff will need to take into account as games progress.
As a team the offence has a batting average of .265 with 23 homeruns and 81 extra base hits. They will be looking to take advantage of the NightOwls elevated team ERA of over five. Meanwhile the Falcons’ pitching staff has been awesome this summer with a 3.56 ERA, second best in the West Coast League and have struck out 281 batters.
They will meet a NightOwls club who is hitting .240 this season with 19 homers and 78 extra base hits. They got hot just before the break and swept the Bend Elks, outscoring them 21-6. They have been almost a 500 ballclub on the road with 10 wins and 11 losses.
Like the Falcons, they had just two All-Stars participate at the game in Victoria earlier this week. Outfielder Ethan Reynolds will be a difficult hitter to get out, and Jaxon McDonald has been very good on the bump to date.
The Falcons will host the NightOwls on Friday and Saturday nights starting at 6:35pm, with the gates opening an hour before. The series finale on Sunday will start at 1:05pm.
Fans can purchase tickets in advance on the Falcons ticket page or purchase them at the gate on game days an hour before opening pitch.
