Sumner Superb

Saturday night the Falcons scored three runs in the first four innings and held off the visiting Victoria Harbourcats to capture a 3-2 victory at Elks Stadium.

The reigning West Coast League Pitcher of the Week Seth Sumner turned in another wonderful performance throwing six innings allowing two unearned runs and striking out four, collecting his fifth win of the campaign.

Offensively the bats were relatively quiet recording just four hits over the course of the game.  In the bottom of the first they scored a pair of runs to take an early lead.  After Nolan Eberwein and Jacob Loving walked to lead off the frame, Rees Kozar blasted a double to score both runners.

In the home half of the fourth inning the home side would tally the eventual winning run.  Kozar led off the inning with another double, then moved to third on a single from Riley Quealey.  With runners at the corners Justin Tucker lifted a sacrifice fly to score Kozar to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead.  Kozar finished the game with two of the team’s four hits, drove in two runs and scored the other.

Sumner (pictured) continued to roll until the sixth when the ‘Cats took advantage of an error which led to a pair of unearned runs.

The pitching staff locked down the rest of the contest to preserve the win for Sumner.  Keller Bloodworth threw a perfect seventh inning, then Aiden Ennis threw the final two innings facing the minimum six batters and struck out five of them to earn the save.

Sunday morning the Falcons will look to sweep the Harbourcats for the second time this season with the first pitch set for 11:05am.  This is an unusual early start time to allow the ‘Cats to catch a ferry post game to get back to the island.  Gates open at 10:05am and tickets can be purchased there or in advance on the Falcons ticket page.
