Powerful Pena
He’s back!
The coaching staff is pleased to welcome back lefthanded power hitter Matthew Pena from Cal State Northridge.
Pena was a fan favourite during the summer of 2024 when he batted .309 with the Falcons tallying 51 hits, nine doubles, three homeruns and 31 RBIs in 47 games. That summer he was relied upon heavily in key situations as a freshman. Now as a junior at D1 CSUN he brings a wealth of baseball experience and will be looked at to do even more.
This spring he is hitting .310 after 142 at bats, has collected 44 hits, six doubles, is tied for the team lead with 14 homers and 43 RBIs while scoring 34 runs. He will inject enormous power and dependably into the middle of the Falcons lineup this summer.
Last spring as a sophomore, following his summer with the Falcons, he appeared in 40 games a first base, recording seven homers and 30 RBIs along with an impressive six-multi-hit games.
Off the field Pena has three siblings, Nicolas, Alexa and Zac and is a big San Francisco Giants fan as native of Hollister, California, about an hour and a half from San Fran. In high school he played both baseball and football.
The Falcons are extremely excited to have him back in the mix in 2026 as the season begins on May 29th at Elks Stadium when the Bellingham Bells come to town for a three-game weekend series. Season tickets are available now by calling the Falcons headquarters at 250-763-4100. The team is also still searching for a few more billet families which can be a beneficial experience for both players and host families. For billet families, it means opening up their homes to aspiring baseball players, giving them an opportunity to share experiences within the billet family unit. For the player, it’s a chance to share different cultural and social experiences while developing their skills. To learn more, contact the Falcons billet coordinator Karen Nonis at 250-717-6870.
