Kozar Blasts First Homer
In front of the hometown faithful, Rees Kozar blasted his first homerun of the season but unfortunately it was the only scoring the Falcons would get on Thursday night falling 8-1 to the Walla Walla Sweets in the series rubber match.
The visiting Sweets got on the board early, scoring two runs in the top of the second off Falcons’ starter Lucas Smith. The Kozar (pictured) homer would cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fourth, but that’s as close as the Falcons would come.
In the top of the fifth, the Sweets scored four times to extend their lead. All four runs came off Smith who suffered the loss after tossing 4.2 innings and striking out two.
The offence didn’t offer much support on Thursday compiling seven total hits. Kozar was the only player to have a multi-hit game as he accounted for two of the seven. His homer was also the only extra base hit with Sweets’ starter Charles Rogers throwing a gem of a game lasting eight innings and striking out five.
Friday night the Falcons (5-7) are right back at Elks Stadium to open a three-game weekend series with the Port Angeles Lefties (3-8). They have lost five in a row, including allowing the Kamloops NorthPaws to score twice in the bottom of the ninth on Thursday for a 10-9 victory.
Tickets for the entire series can be purchased in advance, or pick them up from the gate an hour before the game begins. Friday’s opening pitch is scheduled for 6:35pm.
