Highlanders Unite

This coming summer there will be plenty of Highlanders at Elks Stadium with a total of six players from McLennen College in Texas added to our roster.

The most familiar name is Sam Flores (pictured) who is back for his second season. Last summer he hit .292 in 35 games with our club and had 35 hits. He is an important piece of our puzzle and can help give the other six Highlanders a sense of comfort as a player who has been here before.

Aidan Kuni is a utility player that will give our coaching staff plenty of options this summer. He’s hitting .372 this spring in 46 games collecting 42 hits, 36 RBIs and displaying some power with nine homers. He is extremely patient at the dish working his way on base with 53 walks and has five stolen bases.

Freshman infielder Brecken Menuet comes to our club after a very busy spring. To date he has played in 44 games, collected 33 hits, 24 RBIs and is batting .262 on the offensive side. He’s been equally as busy on the defensive side with 99 putouts and 26 assists.

Speaking of freshmen, Marcus Smith is an infielder that has played in 22 games this spring in his first year at McLennan. He’s hit .255 over the course of his 22 games and has tallied 13 hits and collected 18 RBIs along with two homeruns.

Freshman Caden Mitchell has all the tools to be a successful catcher at the college level. Last year he was named a District MVP and a First Team All-District selection. This spring he is playing behind two other catchers and hasn’t had an opportunity to get into many games. That will change once he gets to Kelowna.

Righthanded pitcher Isaac Godard is a freshman that has seen limited action this spring. He’s made three appearances, thrown 4.1 innings and has struck out five. He has done his job coming out of the bullpen with a 2.08 ERA.

We are excited to welcome all six of these players to Kelowna for our home opener on Friday May 31. We are still looking for a few good billet families for our student athletes, just connect with Alex Draper at adraper29@shaw.ca to find out more about becoming part of the Falcons family.
