Owls Nip Falcons

The pitchers were locked in on Wednesday night in Nanaimo as the hometown NightOwls handed the visiting Falcons a 3-1 loss.

Righty Keston Holman gave the Falcons another quality start throwing six complete innings, allowing two runs on six hits and struck out five, however he didn’t get the run support he was hoping for and took the loss. The bullpen was also good as Gus McKay and Ethan Coronel combined for three strikeouts, giving up a run on three hits over the course of the last two innings.

Offensively the Falcons scored first in this game in the top of the second inning. With two-out in the frame, Kyle Slater doubled, then three pitches later scored on a Josiah MacKey double, his fourth RBI in just his third game.

The offence would tally six hits in the ballgame with Slater and Zachary Wieder each recording two of them.

Thursday night the Falcons will try and salvage a game in Nanaimo as they meet the NightOwls for the final time in the seasonal series.

The Falcons have just one win in five meetings so far with the Owls this summer.

This weekend the Falcons travel to Victoria to meet the Harbourcats for a weekend series before the All-Star break. The next home game at Elks Stadium is set for Friday July 18, when the Port Angeles Lefties come to town.
