Heartbreaker

The Falcons broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the ninth inning on Thursday night but couldn’t hold the lead and fell to the Bells in Bellingham 6-4.
It’s the fifth straight loss for the Falcons who initially took a 2-0 lead after the first two innings. Matthew Pena continues to hold a hot bat knocking in the first run of the ball game, thanks to an RBI single to chase home Myles Walton. Then in the second inning Eddie Fines doubled to score Caden Mitchell shaping up to be a successful night for the visitors.
Falcons’ starter Nick Woodcock was cruising in his five innings of work keeping the Bells hitters off balance. They finally got to him in the fifth scoring a single run to cut the lead. The score stayed that way until the eighth inning when the Bells tied it.
However, the tie didn’t last long as the Falcons retook the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the ninth inning. Fines collected his second double of the game and brought home Trey Duffield and Ryan Degroot.
The bottom of the ninth started so well for reliever Dylan Vinson, retiring the first two batters. He then walked the next two before giving up an infield single setting the table for some fireworks. With the bases full of Bells, Roman Martin stepped to the plate and worked the count full 3-2. On the next pitch he crushed a ball over the outfield wall for a game winning grand slam…like every kid dreams of.
The Falcons will need to shake that off as they return to Elks Stadium on Friday to welcome the Port Angeles Lefties for a weekend set. The first pitch on Friday is set for 6:35pm with the gates opening up at 5:30pm. Fans can pre-purchase tickets online HERE.
